# Anthropic Invests $100 Million in Upskilling Program for Deployed AI Engineers

Anthropic is launching a $100 million initiative to train 10,000 engineers from other companies in deployed AI technology by the end of 2027. The program will provide four-day on-site intensives and 12-week residencies with Anthropic's Claude tools.

Anthropic is investing $100 million in a program aimed at upskilling engineers from other companies in deployed AI technology.

The initiative targets forward-deployed engineers, who have seen a surge in demand as more businesses seek to deploy AI tools and software in their operations.

As part of the training, selected engineers will participate in four-day on-site intensives with Anthropic's Claude tools, followed by 12-week "residencies" where they work at their own companies with the same technology.

The company aims to train 10,000 people through this program by the end of 2027.

The rapid growth of AI model capabilities has led to an increased demand for specialized talent in deployed engineering roles, according to Anthropic's head of go-to-market strategy and operations for partnerships, Shambhavi.

To address this need, Anthropic is introducing the concept of Frontier Deployed Engineers (FDEs), a title that emphasizes the critical role these individuals play in driving innovation at companies. FDEs possess deep technical expertise in AI and are mandated to create new modes of work within their organizations.

Shambhavi identified four key attributes that distinguish exceptional FDEs: familiarity with agentic AI systems, problem-solving skills, effective communication abilities, and extensive engineering experience.

Companies are looking for individuals who can navigate complex interpersonal dynamics when implementing agentic AI systems in their workflows. Shambhavi noted that companies seeking a more holistic approach to agentic AI require someone who can facilitate smooth integration and adoption.

Anthropic's own Frontier Deployed Engineers face similar challenges on a daily basis, according to Shambhavi. In response to this demand, various companies are now actively recruiting engineers with expertise in deploying AI systems.

The market is responding by creating new roles that cater to the need for engineers who can expand their teams' use of agentic AI.

The training program for deployed AI engineers offered by Anthropic includes a practical test that assesses their skills in a real-world setting.

The assessment focuses on identifying key attributes of a great FDE, including articulation, problem-solving abilities, and coding skills. This is a crucial step in determining whether the engineer has the necessary expertise to effectively deploy agentic AI within their organization.

Anthropic's program aims to address the skills gap that is hindering the deployment of AI like Claude, which is creating a market problem for corporate customers seeking to utilize its capabilities.
